Computer Aided Design Studio

The CADesign Studio was first established in 1982. The department was the first academic institution to integrate 2D pattern design in the curriculum and among the first three to adopt 2D pattern grading and marker making. Since that time the studio has been upgraded multiple times. Today, classes use a variety of software applications to design, develop, and present student projects. Students use the same software used by the textiles and apparel industry, including retail. For example:

  • CAD graphics design: flat sketches, product specifications, illustration, storyboard presentations, electronic portfolios, web sites
  • CAD textile design: print, woven, and knit design
  • CAD pattern design
  • CAD pattern grading
  • CAD marker making
  • Presentations

For a complete and current listing of the technology and how it is used in all FASH courses, refer to Computer Applications in Fashion Courses.
