Highlights of Fashion and Apparel Studies

The Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies is unique in many ways. All students participate in Discovery Learning. A Discovery Learning Experience is experiential and involves out-of-class instructional experiences that are beyond the typical curriculum courses. Many of the students in Apparel Design and Fashion Merchandising participate in study abroad and internships. Students may also assist faculty with their research and scholarship through independent study, or carry out their own projects as part of the CHEP Summer Scholars program or an Honors Degree with Distinction.

The “Fashioning Social Responsibility” distinguished lecture series provides the campus community with access to high profile speakers who are willing to discuss current issues of social responsibility and sustainability faced by the fashion industry. Along that same theme, you will notice that many of the faculty pursue research and scholarship focused on topics of social responsibility and sustainability.
