I believe one of the strengths at the University of Delaware is its Faculty Senate.  We are fortunate that the UD Faculty Senate functions so capably in the management of undergraduate and graduate curricula; not all universities have a Faculty Senate that plays such a significant role in the governance of academic affairs in the university community.  At the University of Delaware, Faculty Senate Committee recommendations function in maintaining the integrity of academics year after year, bringing necessary procedural updates to our By-laws and Faculty Handbook.

Since coming to the University of Delaware in 1984, I have served on several Senate committees: Research, Graduate Studies, Student Life and Rules; for the latter two, I served as chair.  I have been Senate Secretary for the last four years.  I hope to enable the UD Faculty Senate to continue to serve as the primary forum for discussion of relevant academic issues concerning faculty, students and staff, discussion that often results in meaningful changes to our methods of governance.  I also hope to promote the role of the Faculty Senate in communicating timely information in the university community, information that can result in increased awareness of critical, but sometime overlooked issues.
