Whereas, in May 2004, the Faculty Senate passed a resolution requiring that beginning in the Fall Semester, 2005, all entering Freshmen students successfully complete a First Year Experience (FYE); and

Whereas, several academic units are actively working to create an FYE that will meet the specific and unique needs of students in their major; and

Whereas, the original resolution did not specify a mechanism whereby newly created or revised courses could be certified as fulfilling a First Year Experience; be it therefore

Resolved, the authority for certifying courses as fulfilling a First Year Experience is given to the Undergraduate Studies Committee of the Faculty Senate.
