Draft Proposal for Review of Provisional Programs- Version 23
WHEREAS, New or substantially revised graduate and undergraduate programs are normally granted provisional status by the University of Delaware Board of Trustees for a trial period before being considered for permanent status; and
WHEREAS, It is the function of the Graduate Studies Committee and the Undergraduate Studies Committee to make recommendations to the Coordinating Committee on Education regarding permanent status of provisional programs based on thorough reviews; and
WHEREAS, It is important to have timely review and report schedules so that provisional programs have sufficient time to mature and for evaluation data required for review to become available; and
WHEREAS, It is equally important to define and make available review criteria and evidence required for reports of program reviews; and
WHEREAS, The following eight resolutions are recommended for approval by the Graduate Studies Committee with concurrence of the Undergraduate Studies Committee Chair (Jeffrey Jordan) now, therefore, be it
1. RESOLVED, That all provisional doctor’s programs be reviewed for permanent status during the 7th academic year following the next September 1 after the date of approval by the Board of Trustees; and
2. RESOLVED, That all provisional master’s programs be reviewed for permanent status during the 5th academic year following the next September 1 after the date of approval by the Board of Trustees; and
3. RESOLVED, That all provisional bachelor’s programs be reviewed for permanent status during the 5th academic year following the next September 1 after the date of approval by the Board of Trustees; and
4. RESOLVED, That a status report for all provisional doctor’s programs be submitted to the Graduate Studies Committee within the 4th year; and
5. RESOLVED, That a status report
for all provisional master’s and bachelor’s programs be submitted
to the respective
Graduate and Undergraduate Studies Committees
within the 3rd year; and
6. RESOLVED, That all provisional
program reviews include an internal or external faculty peer review that is administered initiated by
the Vice Office of the Provost for Academic
Programs; and
7. RESOLVED, That the Graduate and Undergraduate Studies Committees develop and make available to departments the criteria for status reports and criteria for internal and external reviews; and
8. RESOLVED, That any provisional
program that does not submit program review materials in a timely manner will may be
subject to disestablishment by the Faculty Senate.
