a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or deletion:

 

The overweight/obesity problem in the U.S. population is considered to be of epidemic proportions for both adults and

children.  Dealing with this issue is a current and future challenge for nutrition and dietetics professionals who chose

clinical or community health focus areas of practice.  The management of obesity is complex and encompasses physiologic, behavioral, and environmental factors.  In order to better prepare our majors who have an interest in this area, and uniquely position them in the marketplace to deal with this health problem, we are proposing to develop a concentration in overweight/obesity prevention and management.  The concentration will provide majors who select to complete it with the knowledge base to enhance long-term client success in managing healthy weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight over a lifetime.
