4.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

The College of Health and Nursing Sciences is an interdisciplinary, professional, service-oriented college with four health and fitness related departments (Health and Exercise Sciences, Medical Technology, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics) and a Division of Special Programs.  Undergraduate majors in the college seek employment and career opportunities in health care and health-related fields including medical offices, health clinics, health maintenance organizations, non-profit health agencies, insurance and pharmaceutical companies and community health programs.  With the current global health care crisis requiring a need for educated, professional health care providers, we believe it will be both beneficial and economically far-sighted to offer undergraduate students a major and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Studies.

5.  Summary of program:

The goal of the proposed undergraduate major is to provide a broad-based degree for students interested in a health-related career in any number of settings within the health services arena.  Foundation courses in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences will be combined with courses from one or more departments in the College of Health and Nursing Sciences. Students in the Health Studies major can select a concentration area or an existing University minor outside the college in order to meet individual personal and career objectives and interests.

The curriculum requires 120 credit hours and includes:
