List program changes for curriculum revisions:

            Delete Nursing 660 (2 credits)

Add one credit each to the first two clinical courses for each Clinical Nurse Specialist course

The result is one less course but NO change in the credit requirments

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum:

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

            NONE

Other affected units:

(List other departments affected by this new or revised curriculum.  Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

            NONE

Rationale:

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

Nursing 860 (now Nursing 660) is 2 credits and was initially developed to increase the number of clinical hours needed for graduates to meet national accreditation standards. Students from multiple specialties were together but had to contact their specialty advisors for guidance for clinical objectives.

Each of the 4 tracks (Nursing of Children, Women’s Health, Adult Health, and Psychiatric Nursing) requires 2 clinical courses, 3 credits each.

The same goal can be accomplished by adding one credit to each of the 2 specialty clinical courses – making them 4 credits each and deleting Nursing 660.

Benefits: decreased need for one course

                        Decreased fragmentation of clinical experiences

                        No change in program credits

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)

Delete Nursing 660

Amend: Nursing 650, 651, 654, 655, 671, 672, 636, 646 to be 4 credits each
