***Mary Jo Mankin requested that these proposals, which could not be entered into the electronic course inventory system, be presented in a Word document.

1.      Proposal: Convert HESC495, Health Studies Practicum, to HLTH495.

Rationale: This course was initiated last year specifically for use in the College’s Health Studies major, which was also being proposed last year. At the time, there was no HLTH course designator prefix.

  1. Proposal: Convert all undergraduate Independent Studies to Pass/Fail. This includes: HESC/NTDT 166, 266, 366, 466.

Rationale: Independent studies usually result in “A” grades and are contributing to perceived grade inflation. We are simultaneously proposing HESC/NTDT 168, 268, 369, and 468, Special Topics. The course number 368 was not allowed because it has been used for a course deactivated within the past five years. These courses are independent study in format and have standard grading for cases in which it is necessary for a student to have a grade in such a course.
