a.        Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

Proposed changes to major:

1)      Change title of major from Health Behavior Management to Health Behavior Science (as a more accurate descriptor.)

2)      Delete the Sport Management Concentration, since we are concurrently proposing that Sport Management become a separate major. This program has evolved as more business and marketing oriented than the other concentrations in HBS.

3)      Eliminate STAT200 as a breadth requirement. The essential content form this course will be rolled into newly proposed course HESC326, Research Methods and Statistics for Behavioral Science.

4)      Include in the major requirements newly proposed course HESC160, Health Behavior Science First Year Seminar.

5)      Eliminate HESC400, Research Methods, as a major requirement to be replaced by newly proposed course HESC326, Research Methods and Statistics for Behavioral Science.

Proposed changes to Fitness Management concentration:

1)      Delete HESC 445, Concepts of Physical Fitness Testing, and revise concentration requirement HESC432, Basic Exercise Prescription, from a 3-credit course to a 4-credit course that will include the essential content from HESC 445 to better package this content for students.

Proposed changes to Recreation and Park Administration concentration:

1)      Change title of concentration to Leisure Service Management to reflect better the job market for graduates of this program.

2)      Change titles of concentration requirements HESC207 and HESC261 to mirror the change in the concentration title.

3)      Eliminate HESC 202, Practicum in Sport Management/Recreation I, as a required course, as new major requirement, HESC 160, Health Behavior Science First Year Seminar will take its place.

4)      Add HESC 347, Legal Aspects of Sport Management, as a pertinent new content area for students in this concentration.

2.                    A competitive cumulative GPA.
