2 will serve as an attachment to the Faculty Senate agenda. Proposing department should complete form,
attach as a cover page and forward to the college dean. Documentation should
include copy of curriculum as it is to appear in the Undergraduate and Graduate
Catalog. Proposals must arrive to the
Undergraduate/Graduate Committee by November in order to reach the Faculty Senate
by March 1. Proposals received after
this date cannot be implemented the following year nor included in the catalog
for that year.

a. Rationale
for creation, revision, or deletion:
Whereas:
these
two concentrations were approved by the Faculty Senate at the February 11,
2002, meeting, and
Whereas:
the
Mechanical Engineering Department did not anticipate a current ME Senior having
the necessary requirements for the recently approved concentrations, and
Whereas:
there
is a current senior, scheduled to graduate in Spring 2002 who will have the
necessary requirements for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering,
Concentration in Biomedical Engineering, and
Whereas:
the
newly established concentrations were added to existing, well established
degree programs (thus not representing a major change or a new program), and
Whereas:
both
the Registrar and the Associate Provost have responded that unless the words
“effective immediately” are on a Senate curriculum issue, it will only take
effect starting the next academic year after approval, and
Whereas:
the
Mechanical Engineering Department has sent notice to all the current seniors
asking if they also might have the necessary requirements for either
concentration,
Therefore:
be
it resolved that the Senate add the words “effective immediately” to the
recently approved Mechanical Engineering Concentrations: Aerospace Engineering
and Biomedical Engineering
