4. Rationale for creation, revision, or description:

Required credits have been reduced and replaced with technical elective credits to give students more flexibility in course choice.  In particular, the chemical engineering faculty wishes to expand its efforts in biochemical engineering.

5.      Summary of proposed program:

The courses CHEG 325, 342 and 401 have been reduced from 4 credits to 3 credits.  The course M 302 has been changed from required and a technical elective substituted.

The course CHEM  443 has been changed from required and a technical elective substituted.

The required course CHEG 320 has been increased from 2 to 3 credits to maintain credit uniformity with required courses.

The material science faculty has elected to reduce the credits for MSEG 302 from 4 to 3.

Students are given the option of taking 1 credit of CHEM 445 and 1 credit of CHEM 333 or 2 credits of CHEM 333.

Students are given the option of taking either CHEM 332 (Organic Chemistry) or CHEM 527 (Intro to Biochemistry).

A comparison of our current and proposed curriculum is attached.
