This form is a routing document for the approval of new and revised academic programs.  Page 2 will serve as an attachment to the Faculty Senate agenda.  Proposing department should complete form, attach as a cover page and forward to the college dean. Documentation should include copy of curriculum as it is to appear in the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog.  Proposals must arrive to the Undergraduate/Graduate Committee by November in order to reach the Faculty Senate by March 1.   Proposals received after this date cannot be implemented the following year nor included in the catalog for that year.

a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

 

 

We are requesting that the title of this major be changed from “Education” to “Curriculum and Instruction” and that the title of the concentration be changed from “Curriculum and Instruction” to “Science Education”.  The proposed change will enable graduates of the program to meet certification requirements as a Secondary Science teacher.  There are no course changes requested at this time. 

 

Please note that according to the admissions requirements, students entering this program must have completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree in biology, chemistry, physics, geology, engineering or other science related fields.  Upon admission into the program, their transcripts are evaluated by the relevant academic department (biology, chemistry, physics, geology) at UD to determine if all academic major degree requirements, as specified in our State Approved undergraduate degree programs, have been met.  Students will be required to complete any deficiencies, either through undergraduate or graduate courses, in their academic content area.
