a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or deletion:

In the current Ph.D. in Education program, students are required to complete a total of 6 credits of EDUC 840, Research Colloquium. This one credit course is offered each semester, and consists of guest scholars presenting their research findings to doctoral students and faculty in a setting that encourages collegiality and familiarizes students with a number of scholarly presentation styles and content areas. While this remains an important goal, the School of Education recognizes that some of our doctoral students work in settings and organizations that have a similar format in terms of offering guest lectures by prominent scholars and researchers in their field. In some cases, these lectures are required by the students’ employers.

We are proposing to reduce the number of semesters that doctoral students are required to attend the School of Education sponsored lectures from 6 semesters to 4 semesters and concurrently encouraging these employed students to attend their professional organization lectures.  Full-time doctoral students will still be encouraged (but not required) to attend the Research Colloquium lectures during each semester of their matriculation.

All other course requirements, policies and procedures remain the same.
