Subject:              Support for Proposed MIS Major in B&E

The Department of Computer&Information Sciences and the College of Business&Economics have been collaborating on new undergraduate majors that address the demand for students with a combination of technical and business training. The Management Information Systems major in the College of Business&Economics is oriented towards students who want to emphasize the use of information technology in business processing, whereas the proposed Information Systems major in the Department of Computer&Information Sciences is oriented towards students who want to emphasize the design of new software systems for business.

The Department of Computer&Information Sciences (CIS) enthusiastically supports the proposed MIS major in the College of Business&Economics. The proposal outlines beginning the program with 20 students from the College of Business&Economics in the MIS major and 20 students from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences in the IS major, and growing the program over time as demand indicates and additional resources support. CIS looks forward to further collaboration with the College of Business&Economics in the future.
