Dr. James G. Richards

President Faculty Senate

University of Delaware

Newark, DE 19716

Dear Dr. Richards:

The College of Business & Economics respectfully submits the attached proposal to add the new major: Management Information Systems to the available majors offered through the College. As you will note while reviewing the proposal, it has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Computer & Information Sciences and is based on industry feed back, academic benchmarking and alumni surveys. A complementary proposal has been submitted by the Department of Computer & Information Sciences and has my full support.

The proposed programs will allow undergraduates to select either a business or information technology focus for the upper division classes, while participating in a common core of business, IT, and MIS courses. The proposal outlines beginning the program with 20 students from the Computer & Information Sciences Department and 20 students from Business & Economics and growing the program over time as demand indicates and additional resources support. The Bachelor of Science: Management Information Systems will be administrated through the Department of Accounting & MIS in the College of Business & Economics.

The attached packet contains:

The Academic Program Approval Checklist, including the rationale for the creation of the major, a summary of the program, and the indication of the Authorized Degree Titles.

The Proposal in the format suggested by the Faculty Senate, which includes the proposed curriculum in a format consistent with the Undergraduate catalog, a summary of the data gathered during the summer's Industry Feedback Forums and a listing of the participants of those sessions.

Faculty Resources, which is a listing of the relevant faculty available in the College of Business & Economics to teach in this new program.

A memo from the chair of the Computer & Information Sciences Department stating their support for this new major.
