a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

These revisions are the result of the normal cycle of reviewing and updating our curriculum.

New OM Curriculum

BUAD346              3 credits

BUAD446              3 credits

BUAD447              3 credits

BUAD448              3 credits

BUAD449              3 credits  (replaces ECON415)

This proposal is to slightly modify the set of courses that will be required for Operations Management majors.  The new set of courses is shown above.  The only difference between this new set and the old set is that we are replacing ECON415 with BUAD449.  At this time, we believe that including a Logistics course will benefit our students more than the current Economic Forecasting course.  Forecasting methods are already covered in other OM courses including BUAD306, and BUAD446 and will be covered in part in the new course, BUAD 449.  Thus, our students will still be well versed in forecasting techniques and models.  In addition, they will be much stronger in their knowledge of logistics and related models there.

Logistics is a very important OM problem today, as more and more firms are dealing with the problems and complexity involved with transporting their goods and services across the globe.  Upon reviewing our curriculum, we believe that our students should be offered more education in the area of logistics.  Since we can do this without taking away from their education in forecasting, we believe this change will better prepare our OM students to solve business problems in Operations upon graduation.

These new course has been submitted to the University Course Challenge list (see separate sheet).

We propose to require that students earn a grade of C- or better in all courses within the major and the quantitative course requirements.  This represents a tightening of policy from our previous requirement of a C- or better in all but one of the major courses and allowed a D in one of the Math courses.

This document shows the degree title as the Bachelor of Science consistent with the separate proposal to convert our degree designation from BSBA to BS.
