a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

Rationale for name change.

The faculty of the Center for American Material Culture Studies voted to change the name of the Center to the Center for Material Culture Studies. The vote occurred after extensive discussions begun in the spring of 2003 and concluded in the fall of 2003. The rationale for the name change can be summarized as follows:

1)      The name change reflects more accurately the richness and diversity of the interests of our faculty, students, and institutional partners;

2)      The Center for Material Culture Studies will be able to be more responsive to opportunities to bring faculty and students together from across the University;

3)      The renamed Center reflects the growing internationalization of the University of Delaware and acknowledges that American material culture needs to be approached  in both its national and international contexts.

Impact.

The name change from the Center for American Material Culture Studies to the Center for Material Culture Studies has no impact on the curriculum for our minor in American Material Culture Studies. The content and structure of the minor will remain unchanged as will its name and rubric (AMCS). The name change applies solely to the larger Center in which the minor is located.

b.  Summary of program:

No change to existing minor in American Material Culture Studies (AMCS).
