a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion

1.             MUSC485, Pedagogy of Theory, is being deactivated as this course is obsolete in contemporary music theory/composition degree programs. The three credits made available by the deactivation of MUSC 485 will be used for the addition of MUSC 484, Recording Techniques, which is a more timely and relevant course than MUSC 485.  It focuses on the recording industry, and thus is more appropriate for inclusion in an undergraduate music theory/composition degree program. The number of credits stays the same.

2.             MUSC198, 199, 299 (Applied Composition) has been taught as the same course, but under different course numbers. These courses will be replaced with MUSC 298 (Beginning Composition) a one-credit course that may be taken four times.

3.             MUSC331, Orchestration has been taught as a more advanced course  and will be replaced by the more appropriate course designation MUSC431.
