List program changes for curriculum revisions:

There is no major change in the program.  Students in this program may choose the current set of established courses.  They  may choose the two new courses in probability and statistics Math 350 and Math 450 instead of Math 201 and 202 to enhance their data analysis background.

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum:

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

None

Other affected units:

(List other departments affected by this new or revised curriculum.  Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

Rationale:

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

The current Math 300-Probability and Statistics (4 credits ) has been separated into two separate courses Math 350-Probability Theory and Math 450-Mathematical Statistics (3 credits each).  These two new courses will strengthen the data analysis skills of those students who intend to attend graduate school or pursue a career in actuary.

In addition, a new 1-credit seminar Math 268 at the sophomore level is designed to introduce students to faculty and government research interest, and to enhance their research skill.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)
