a.  Rationale for creation, revision, or  deletion:

Women's Studies would like to formalize a focus in "Women in Global Perspective," a

field of growing and significant interest and concern to Women's Studies scholars.

Such a concentration would offer majors and minors a specialization in an area of inquiry that has been developing at a rapid pace over the past decade.

Core and affiliated faculty members of the Women's Studies faculty at the University of Delaware offer an impressive array of courses that would appropriately be included in such a concentration. We have found that many of these courses are offered regularly, enabling us to build a concentration around them. The only required course in the concentration, WOMS 202, Introduction to International Women's Studies, is owned by our program and at least one section is offered every semester.  We believe that such a concentration would offer our students enhanced knowledge about an important area of scholarship and would better equip them to enter a work world where global awareness is increasingly valued.

b.  Summary of program:

The Women's Studies concentration in "Women in Global Perspective" will consist of

15 credits. Students will be required to take WOMS 202, Introduction to International
