A.  Academic:

All Fellows are required to successfully complete a minimum of 38 degree credits in the following course areas:

                        Museum Studies (12 credits):

                                    PLSC 832 (Section 11) - Botanic Garden Management:  Longwood Gardens Internship (3 credits)

                                    PLSC 831 - Taxonomy of Ornamental Plants (3 credits)

B.  Practical:

All Fellows are required to successfully complete the following practical management experiences:

                        Leader’s Internship (at Longwood Gardens)

                        The general requirements for First-year Fellows include:

                                                o            complete an orientation/rotation

                                                o            maintain a daily log

                                                o            complete an interpretive (individual) project

                                                o            complete a group project

                                                o            plan a symposium

                                                o            develop a management team mentality

                        Three (3) credits for this are earned through MSST 804 - Museum Internship.

                       


The general requirements for Second-year Fellows include:

                                                o            complete an individual project

                                                o            complete a group project

                                                o            plan a symposium

                                                o            participate in Longwood information duty

                                                o            mentor the First-year students and develop a management team mentality

            Three (3) credits for this are earned through PLSC 832 (section 11) Botanic Garden Management:  Longwood Internship.

 

Individual Fellows are selected by the Coordinator and Second-year Students to the following leadership positions depending upon individual program needs:

 

                        1.            Editor of The Vine:  The editor can earn a maximum of 1 credit for each volume edited.  The credit would be through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Vine Editor.

 

                        2.            Field Trip Leader:  the leader can earn a maximum of 1 credit per year through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Field Trip Leader.

 

                        3.            Graduation Event Leader:  the leader can earn a maximum of 1 credit through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Graduation Event Leader.

 

                        4.            Group Project Leader:  the leader can earn a maximum of 3 credits through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Group Project Leader.  The other students can earn credit for Group Project through the Leader’s Internship.

 

                        5.            Interview Period Leader:  the leader can earn a maximum of 1 credit through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Interview Period Leader.

 

                        6.-7.            Symposium Planning and Development Leaders:  the Leader can earn 3 credits and the Assistant Symposium Leader can earn 2 credits through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Symposium Planning and Development.  The other students can earn a maximum of 1 credit per year through PLSC 864 - Seminar Planning and Development.

 

                        8.            Tropical Internship (away from Longwood Gardens) Leader:  the leader can earn 2 course credits through PLSC 666 (section 34) - Tropical Internship.

                       

                        9.            Web Page Assistant Editor: the assistant can earn 1 credit per semester working with the Coordinator to maintain The Program’s Web Page.  Use PLSC666 (Section 034) - Web Page
