In April 2014, the University of Delaware Community Engagement Task Force submitted UD's extensive application to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for the Elective Community Engagement Classification. The Carnegie Foundation will announce newly classified institutions in December 2014. UD's application and supporting materials are available here, as well as the task force's final report.
One of the task force's recommendations already has been enacted. A University of Delaware Community Engagement Commission has been established to build on the task force's work. The commission is studying models and best practices of community engagement throughout the United States. The commission will develop goals, activities and assessments, and a structure best suited for sustaining and expanding the work of community engagement at UD. A report will be generated and submitted to the Office of the Deputy Provost by January 31, 2015.
