- COLLEGES & PROGRAMS
One of the core missions of the University of Delaware is to engage students, faculty, staff and alumni in the most compelling challenges of our age. We’ve pledged to apply our research and human talent to solve pressing economic, environmental, social, civic and scientific problems—in Delaware, in the region and around the world.
Among the University’s greatest strengths is its long and vibrant tradition of public service. Last year, an annual community engagement survey revealed a wealth of activities performed by faculty and staff. Through an analysis of the University websites and interviews with key stakeholders, over 375 programs with 300 unique community partners were identified.
Our students are also involved in community engagement , as members of service learning classes, as researchers in community based research projects, and as volunteers in co-curricular activities. In a recent survey conducted by the National Survey of Student Engagement, 75% of our students indicated that they participated in community service by the time they were seniors.
For the seventh time, UD has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. UD has been recognized in two areas: General Community Service and Education. The honor roll is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service’s strategic commitment to engage millions of college students in service and celebrate the critical role of higher education in strengthening communities.
The University of Delaware will continue to build world-class research and service programs. The following entities serve as coordinating hubs for community engagement at the university, the Office of Service Learning, the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, the School of Public Policy and Administration, and the Institute for Global Studies.
This is your portal to the ample engagement projects offered through these programs and many others developed by colleges and units throughout the University.
I hope you’ll explore this site and find fulfilling ways that you, too, might engage and serve.
