One of the core missions of the University of Delaware is to engage students, faculty, staff and alumni in the most compelling challenges of our age. We’ve pledged to apply our research and human talent to solve pressing economic, environmental, social, civic and scientific problems—in Delaware, in the region and around the world.
Among the University’s greatest strengths is its long and vibrant tradition of public service. Last year, 12,000+ students—well more than half the University’s student population—participated in service learning, community-based research and volunteer projects. Altogether, they spent more than 140,000 hours of their time serving and learning in the community. And for the third-straight year, UD has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, this time with Distinction. It’s the highest federal recognition a university can achieve for its commitment to volunteerism, service learning and civic engagement.
The University of Delaware will continue to build world-class research and service programs. The Office of Undergraduate Research and Experiential Learning promotes community-engaged scholarship through the Office of Service Learning, the Undergraduate Program, the McNair Scholars Program and the ArtsBridge Scholars Program. This is your portal to the ample engagement projects offered through these programs and many others developed by colleges and units throughout the University.
I hope you’ll explore this site and find fulfilling ways that you, too, might engage and serve.
