Moscow

A sign of the times. The line at Lenin's Tomb is much shorter than the line to McDonalds in Pushkin Square. I stood in line for at least 30 minutes at McDonalds, about 5 minutes at Lenin's Tomb.
There was no need for people to stand in line at the GUM -- Moscow's celebrated department store. An architectural wonder, but a little short on merchandise. A sign in the Christian Dior shop informed shoppers that they would accept "hard currency" only. No one here wants rubles. On the day before, the taxi driver who took me to my hotel out of town wanted me to pay him in dollars. Five dollars -- for at least a thirty minute trip.

Pizza Hut seemed to be doing ok.
