I'd like to get you on a slow boat to China . . .

The route led from Osaka to Shanghai. Forty-eight hours all together.
My accommodations -- a second class cabin. I staked out my claim here in the corner. No reason to rush, though. It turned out that there were only three of us in this room for the two night journey. Quite unlike the standing-room-only condition of the Wales to Ireland ferries.

Even though this was a Chinese boat, it still had JAPANESE prices in the cafeteria.

I met Toshie (on the right) and her traveling companion Toshi on the boat. Our paths were to cross again -- in both Shanghai and Beijing.
