Policy for transferring to another school from the ELI
Halfway through each session, students receive their Intention Form from their Listening/Speaking teacher. Through this form, ELI students tell us their plans for the next session.
If you plan to transfer to another school at the end of your current session, please attach the ACCEPTANCE LETTER and TRANSFER FORM from your new school to your completed Intention Form and give both forms to the ELI Receptionist in the ELI Main Building.
During the last week of class, you will receive a Departure Form from your Listening/Speaking teacher. After you return your completed Departure Form to the ELI secretary, and the ELI has recorded your final passing grades and good attendance records, the University of Delaware will release your SEVIS record to your new school.
Remember:
- UD cannot transfer you until after you have finished your session at the ELI.
- Normally it takes about two weeks for UD to release your SEVIS record to the new school.
- After UD has released your SEVIS record, you will be able to get a new I-20 from your new school.
- Remember, you have a 60-day “grace period” after you finish your ELI session; as long as the transfer happens within the grace period, there will be no problems with your SEVIS record.
- In most cases, you can begin your courses at the new school on the first day of their session even if UD has not yet transferred you. Your transfer will likely occur in the first week of your attendance at the new school. Once your SEVIS record is transferred, you will receive your new I-20 from the new school.
