Accident and Sickness Insurance

During your six-week stay in the United States, you will be enrolled in the Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE) provided through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of International Information Programs, Bureau of Public Affairs within the United States Department of State.

This insurance will only pay for illness and accidents that occur during your six-week stay and will not pay for any chronic or long-term illness or so-called pre-existing conditions. Please consult the website for complete information http://www.onlinehealthplan.com/index.cfm?xnode=256

You will receive an identification card as proof of your health insurance which you will be asked to provide if you see a doctor. ASPE works with a network of healthcare providers and you will not incur any costs other than the deductable of $25.00 if you use these providers. We have a list of providers in the Delaware area on file and will direct you in case of illness. You are required to pay the $25.00 fee immediately for medical services rendered and ASPE will cover any costs above that amount.

You are responsible for payment if you use a different health care provider. ASPE is a limited insurance plan and does not cover the following:

  • any dental treatment unless it is directly related to a covered injury or accident
  • eye exams or glasses
