MBA-CAP Guidelines for the GMAT Exam
Congratulations on being admitted to the MBA Conditional Admission Program (CAP)! Please review these guidelines carefully to ensure your success in the program.
- If you submitted an acceptable GMAT score as part of your application, you will not have to retake the test and it will not be a condition on your official offer of admission letter. You will only have to meet the English Language Institute (ELI) condition in order to waive the TOEFL and begin taking MBA classes. You will also be exempted from the ELI's GMAT Preparation class.
- If you have not met the GMAT requirement, you will need to submit acceptable GMAT scores as well as complete the program at the ELI in order to begin taking MBA classes. GMAT scores are reviewed by the admissions committee and scores of at least 550 with the Math section in the 50th percentile or above and Verbal and Writing sections in the 25th percentile or above are expected.
- CAP students should plan carefully when scheduling the GMAT exam. Do not wait until the end of the ELI program to take the test as there should be ample time to retake the test at least one or more times in case scores do not meet the MBA requirements. The exam can be taken again 31 days after each test date.
- CAP students who do not meet the GMAT requirement can be deferred to the next semester to give time to retake the test. However, visa requirements only allow students 60 days to stay in the US and become matriculated MBA students after completion of the ELI program.
- After a test date has been scheduled, CAP students must send an email to Denise Waters watersd@udel.edu, Director of Recruitment & Admissions for the MBA program, to inform her of the test date so it can be noted in your student file. After the student takes the exam, Denise must again be notified so the official scores can be obtained from the testing agency and reviewed for admission consideration.
- Students will be notified of an admission decision within one week of the official score report being available to the MBA admissions committee. Official score reports take 2 weeks to become available for review.
- Students who do not meet the GMAT requirement will be given the option of deferring to the next semester to begin taking MBA classes but must retake the exam and submit acceptable scores in order to be admitted to the program. Students are responsible for knowing when their visas expire and need to plan accordingly.
- All admission decisions are final and there are no appeals. The GMAT should be taken very seriously and all sections of the test are equally important as math, verbal and writing skills will all be required at a high level to succeed in the MBA classroom. There are a limited number of scholarships and Graduate Assistant positions available for the MBA program and they are awarded on a merit basis. A GMAT score of at least 600 is required to be competitive when being considered for funding.
