Russ Mason

Assistant Professor

Russ Mason did his undergraduate work at Western Maryland College and Salisbury State University. He received a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1977 and worked in the forest products industry for five years. A teacher since 1984, Professor Mason traveled in this capacity in 1989 and 1990, working in Southeast Asia and Central America. He received a master’s degree in Teaching English As A Second Language from Oklahoma State University in 1992. Professor Mason conducted research on the Oral Proficiency Interview, a testing instrument used extensively by OSU in the school’s International Teaching Assistant training program. He has taught ESL for the University of Tulsa, Laufen International, the Tulsa Public School System, Spartan School of Aeronautics, and the University of Delaware.

Since June of 1995, Professor Mason has taught at the University of Delaware’s ELI, specializing in American Culture Track classes. He has combined his skills as a musician and language instructor in teaching the Music Class and the popular English Through the 1960’s high-advanced listening and speaking class. He also created and frequently teaches the Level V General English reading and writing class.
