Nonie Bell began teaching at the ELI in January 2006. Ms. Bell’s ESL teaching experience ranges across community-based and institutional education programs in the U.S. and in Italy. At the ELI, Ms. Bell has taught courses for advanced beginners, for intermediate students in Learning English through the News and for those focused on English for Academic Purposes. Ms. Bell’s enjoyment of professional exchanges with colleagues has been expressed in teaching the American Culture and Pedagogy course for several groups of Korean ESL teachers, leading the Professional Development Taskforce (PDT) which organizes roundtable discussions and seminars for faculty at the ELI as well as co-presenting seminars at the Pennsylvania TESOL East conferences of Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 on topics of using video segments in the ESL classroom, and helping pre-academic ESL learners. The academic world is very familiar to Ms. Bell having earned a Bachelor's degree in American Studies at Rutgers University, a Master's degree in Intercultural Studies/ TEFL from Columbia International University in 1989, and a graduate certificate in Islamic Studies from Columbia International University completed in 2003.
