Barbara Gillette, Ph.D.

Instructor

Barbara Gillette has taught ESL, French, and teacher training courses at the University of Delaware since 1984. Prior to that, she taught ESL for English Language Services at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Gillette holds a Master's Degree in TESOL from the University of Graz, Austria, and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Delaware. Her research has focused on culture teaching, language learning strategies, and teacher training. Dr. Gillette has presented her work at national and international conferences, and has published a number of articles and book chapters on her research. At the E.L.I., Barbara has taught extensively at the high intermediate and advanced levels. She particularly enjoys helping E.L.I. students acquire advanced listening, speaking and cultural skills in her course English through the News. Dr. Gillette has trained teachers from around the world in E.L.I. teacher training workshops and received an "Excellence in Teaching Award" from the University of Delaware in 1996.
