Ken Cranker has been teaching ESL and EFL since 1989 in the U.S. and in Japan. Ken earned his Bachelorʼs degree in Biology with a concentration in nutrition at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. After working in a world-class biochemical laboratory at Cornell with international researchers for 6 years, Ken decided that teaching English to international scholars was far more fulfilling than lab work, so he attended the Graduate School of the State University of N. Y. at Albany and acquired an M.S. in TESOL. He spent a total of 12 years teaching EFL at a language school and the University of Aizu, a computer science university in Japan, where he conducted research in teaching methodology. He has been at the ELI since 2004 and teaches primarily advanced level English for Academic Purposes classes, though he has also coordinated the SALC, the Tutoring Center and study programs from Japan and Central Asia.
