ONE YEAR AGO

One year ago I arrived in Newark, Delaware, USA for the first time. Everything was different and new for me.

At the beginning, everything seemed too hard: I didn't know people, I didn't have any friend, I didn't know where to eat, where to study, where to go shopping... I didn't know anything!! I missed my family, my city, my food, my bed. I felt like a child, I was so scared. I needed mommy!!!

As time passed, everything changed. I made friends from Colombia and other countries. I met my roommates, my classmates, my language partner, my teachers, my tutors.

At that moment I realized what I was doing there. I thought my only objective was to learn English, but I had a very low vision. In fact, I found a bigger goal, my real goal: I had to know other cultures of the world, I had to share my lifestyle with people different (so different) from me, I had to show everyone what really Colombian people are, and the most important thing, I had to give a little bit of me to people and I had to learn a lot of things from people around me. Discovering that big objective was wonderful!!

For four months, my life at the University of Delaware was so good! Every day I had a new experience that helped me to grow, to be a better person. Today, one year later, I just have beautiful memories.

I thank God because of the opportunity of living these wonderful experiences; I thank my teachers, all of them, my tutors, my friends, my roommates and everybody because they made possible to live those good moments I lived there.

I am sure I will never, ever forget the wonderful time I had in the University of Delaware.
