What are the Benefits of an ELI Education?

You will improve your language skills!

ELI students advance one level of English skill per session

The ELI offers six levels of instruction, from beginner to high advanced.

You will receive a certificate when you finish your program!

ELI students who have met the requirements of their program participate in a graduation ceremony and receive a certificate at the end of their session.

The certificate includes dates of study and highest level achieved and is signed by the President and Provost of the University.

You have the opportunity to take part time credit courses at UD!

High level ELI students may request permission to enroll in a 3 credit undergraduate class during the Fall (September – December) or Spring (February – May) sessions.

ELI students who enroll in part time credit courses at UD may decrease their ELI course load and still remain in visa status.

You can take advantage of ELI’s Conditional Admissions Programs (CAP)!

The ELI has CAP agreements with undergraduate programs at University of Delaware, Arcadia University, Wilkes University, and Goldey-Beacom College

ELI students can apply to any of these schools without needing a TOEFL score.

The ELI Admissions Officer helps students apply to CAP.

You can develop the English for Academic skills you will need to be successful in your degree studies in the States!

You can earn UD credit for ELI classes!

Students who achieve a grade of ‘A’ in one session of English for Academic Purposes Level VI Reading & Writing Class or grades of ‘B’ in two sessions of English for Academic Purposes Level VI Reading & Writing Class earn three credits toward the University of Delaware undergraduate program.

The three credits are equivalent to the UD Freshman English class, E110.

ELI students who receive the three credits are exempted from the E110 class.

You can learn specialized content through our electives in Business English, Law, PreMBA, and American culture!
