November 8, 2004 I got my economic degree last October 15 from the University Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Seññora del Rosario in Bogota Colombia. I’m going to start a Master in economics and I’m going to teach macroeconomics in the same university. Paula Carolina Rojas
July 23, 2004 It's been almost three years since I was in Delaware! It was really such a good experience...Everybody learned a lot, and some of them had fun a lot as well!!... What can I say? I'd like to start saying that Ii have been putting into practice what I have learnt there, at the University, all these years. I´ve been making many activities for young learners mainly. I have included Drama in my lessons and also Karaoke...luckely...they worked! Since September 2003 I've been working in London at The Godolphin and Latymer School;London, a private school for girls. I am a Spanish Assistant and the Syllabus is quite different from ours in chile. Here, the girls study Spanish but using the same strategies and approaches thet we use in teachinf English, the difference is that we use Spanish only. I'm very keen on Preparing Students for Spanish GCSE and I'd like to do the same in English for my Students in Chile when I eturn. Well, I'd like to send my regards to all the staff there in ELI. By the way, this web page is great but I'd like to see more pictures of the Chilean Pasantes through the years. A big Hug to all of you, to Marleny, my "PICACHU" friend who I met when I was studying at the University in Chile, we were classmates and we haven't seen until we both got the Intership to Delaware, to Ximena who lives in Rancagua....Kisses.

April 9, 2004 Hello everyone!! My name is Vivian Puerta, I was studying at the ELI during 2 sessions in 2001. I still think of you a lot and specially remember the wonderful time I spent there and the great friends I made. I want to update you about my life. Last year I used to work for KPMG, but I got a better job proposal from LEGIS, a Colombian multinational company very well ranked on law matters. Now I work for LEGIS, I manage a product called Legisnews and I also write the tax page of the specialized newspaper named "Ambito Jurídico", that just brings law news to most of the lawyers in my country. I also got married last year, on december. My honeymoon was in Dominican Republic. So, I´ve been happily married during 4 months. My husband is lawyer too, his name is Alexander. He is a great guy but also very handsome, as you can see in the picture : ). My best two friends from ELI came to the wedding (Jenny from Venezuela and Angela from Colombia) and I was so happy to had them here. It was such a great gift. I also got congratulations from anothers ELI´s friends: Mateo from Italy, Virginia from Argentina, Helena from Japan, Alejandra from Venezuela, Mario from Ecuador, Felipe from Brazil and Juan Carlos from Venezuela. I was very excited to have Jenny with me because I havent seen her since 2001. So, thanks ELI for my good friends, and specially for Jenny and Angela. I also want to say hello to all my teachers: Barbara Gillette, June Quigley, Jack´s SALC, Lisa Grimsley; and to all ELI staff: Kelly Galvin, David Quayle, Joe Matterer and Doctor Stevens. I am not quite sure if all them continue working there. Kisses and warm hugs from Colombia.

February 15, 2004 Dear ELI Friends, Happy New Year !!!!!! A little bit late, but I was really busy trying to find a place to live in South Florida, and studying for my MBA. Finally we found a nice apt. from a walking distance from the University, and also I was without Internet connection. How is everyone ? I hope that the new year started with great news. I'm sorry about the artic weather in Delaware, but I'm pleased to be on sunny Florida. My MBA is working really good. Last week I started the program, and its interesting because its focused on Value-Driven Management and Entrepreneurship. I have a lot of International classmates (from Thailand, Korea, Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Venezuela, Jamaica, Haiti, Bahamas, and France) which makes the program very cross-cultural. My wife is delighted with South Florida's weather, she's going to start classes at the ELI of Nova in two weeks so she can continue with the studies started at Newark I hope to hear news from all of you soon. Keep in touch, Enrique Millan Mejia

February 7, 2004 Dr. Stevens, I hope you remember who I am. I'm German Mancera, from Colombia. I used to be an ELI student 1 year ago, and I'm now enrolled in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department as a Graduate Student. I’m basically willing to say "thanks" not only to you, but also to all the ELI staff. I would definitely say that the time I spent being an ELI student has been one of the most useful and rewarding times of my life. It not only helped me to get a better understanding of other cultures and make friend for other countries, but it also made me a more confident person and allowed me to get involved into the American culture. I had the opportunity of taking a closer look of what it is like to be a student of an American University, and it is one of the reasons why I decided to come back here in order to pursue my Graduate Studies. Being a Graduate Student at the University of Delaware is something that wouldn’t have been possible without your help. The English language skills I acquired at the ELI have given me a chance to work as an International Teaching Assistant at my Department. I must say that your effort has made the English Language Institute a place where everybody trying to learn English need to consider as a first choice. Thank you, again ! German

January 6, 2004 Happy New Year to all of my friends and the stuffs and teachers in the ELI. I'm really missing my life in Newark, DE with you all! I have studied there whole one year;10/23/02-10/24/03! It was too long? No, I feel it's too short actually. The time has flied away! But one of those things which becomes the key to the door to my memories of our days in the ELI of UD now is having many nice friends around the world, with whom we can talk over the countries on line or by air mail! How are you doing all my friends? If you see this message, please let me know how you have been! My new dream has been popped up since I spent those days in Delaware! I will come back to the U.S. again! |
