Dear Professor Wolfe,

I was browsing the net and was gladly surprised with all the changes in ELI's web page. There have been quite a few changes down here in Brazil as well. I've finished and presented my thesis, and I got an A+ for it - with a lot of help from Morris Library serial crime books. I'm finally graduating from Law School - only three and a half more weeks and I'm done. And in January I'm headed back to America, this time to pursuit both my writing career and my Master of Sciences in Criminal Justice degree (Virginia Commonwealth University, that offers an intership with the FBI). I'm glad I already know all those legal terms in English. *wink*

Always,
Pepper (ALLEI July/2000)

Hello everyone!! First at all I want to apologize because I'm emailing you a little bit late. Anyway, the purpose of this email is to say THANKS all you. I attended ELI during may trough august of 2001, and definitely I can say that I learned English plus I made the most wonderful friends I've ever made in my life.

ELI is not just a very good English program, it is a life experience, it is a nourishment cultural exchange, it is to share classes, parties, and a little piece of our life with people from all around the world, different faces, different culture, different food, different manners, different mood. The most amazing picture was when all of us were doing the same: learning English (doesn't matter the accent), making friends (doesn't matter if the other person was in level one and you were in level four or five), dancing the same music (doesn't matter if was an unknown language), eating the same food (doesn't matter if when you finished never realized what you ate), traveling around USA (doesn't matter if someone would rather go to Chinatown than Little Italy), and thousands of things more.

Thanks to my great teachers: Barbara Gillette who knows and sings Shakira´s song; Elena Hopkins who learned how to make sushi and Colombian Coffee from us; June Quigley who I used to say hi everyday with a big smile and "Good Moooooooorning Teeeeeaaaaacher"; Lisa Grimsley who punished every time that my Argentine friend spoke in Spanish; Jack's SALC, the most popular instructor who everyone loves; Lowell's Listening Lab; who made our afternoon more interesting. And of course, my tutor: Suzette Martin who always shared smiles, jokes and love stories with me.

Thanks to ELI staff: Dolly Desiderio, Kelly Galvin, David Quayle , Joe Matterer and Doctor Stevens. My big Thanks for the scholarship that I got from ELI that made possible to study another session over there.

Thanks to Nancy Purcell because of my homestay family, it was a nice experience to live with Maureen Kamerick and her family.

Thanks to my FRIENDS, I'll never forget them: my best friend Jenny from Venezuela, my lovely Mario from Ecuador, My two kids: Sebastian from Venezuela and Mauricio from El Salvador, my roommate Fabiana from Brazil, Selin from Turkey, Abdullah from Saudi Arabia, Gisela from Switzerland, Jiro and Aki from Japan, Damian and Virginia from Argentina, Mateo from Italy, Gyu Tae from Korea, Marcelo from Brazil, Ismail from Turkey, Hatem from Tunisia, Felipe and Angela and their soup opera.

THANKS ELI for those four unforgettable months. I´ll be back some day.

My Name is Paco...I was in ELI from April 1993 until August 1993. After my ELI graduation I started a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at UD, which I finished in May of 1998.

Through my college years, I worked every semester at the Media Center of the Morris Library (usually the night shift 6- 10pm). That kept me link to ELI and allow me to meet its great people after my ELI classes were over.

One week after my graduation from UD, I put everything I had in my car, and drove down to Miami...where I happily live since. I work in Alpine Engineered Products doing computer programming.

My sister ANA also studied in ELI and also got a degree from UD...she finished in Jan 2001, and is now in Panama working for Kenneth Cole Latin America.

If you ever stop by Miami, don't hesitate to contact me! send me an email to panapaco@hotmail.com I check my email about 25 times per day..

Hugs for the guys and kisses for the ladies....Good luck to every one!

Salud.

Fernando Rodriguez
E-mail:  fernandoaer@arnet.com.ar

Dear American Friends:

At this time I'm feeling terribly sad for what has happened in your country. At first I could hardly believe my eyes watching on CNN what might seemed to be a sci-fi movie. After some time and realizing that it was real, I can say that my life as millions lifes had changed forever.

Now the World has to join and hunt these people that think that civilian lifes doesn't cost a penny, me as a representative of Argentina for all of you, want to tell you that my country is with you, as many many others. Here we also suffered from terrorists some years ago so we kind of know what it feels to be attacked by people who seem to be ghosts. I say this because we can not identify who are they or which nationality are they from. They are cowards, insensible cowards that does not deserve living, I know that as a Catholic I can't say this but when these kind of terrorism strikes are perfomed on civilian targets I feel very angry.

Also I would like you to know that this attack was not only done on the United States but over the Whole World, now. We can't think about countries, border lines and all that, we have to gather all together against terrorism! We won't let them act so freely. Let's stand up and fight (the way we can) against them.

I hope you could got my point above my English writing.

I'm with you with all it's needed,

Fernando Rodríguez -- ELI student from 1999

Dear Lowell,

Yesterday was a very sad day for all freedom loving humanity. I thought every time of mi querida Colombia who has been through of this senless violence.

What I don´t understand is the porpuse of this destruction.

The day 9/11/ 2001 was a dark day. A lot of colombians that worked in the twins tower died in this attack. People who moved away from violence and found death in the land of freedom an opportunities.

Anyway the United States is a powerfull country and can overcome and survive.

I express my condolescense.

I am sorry.

The main reason for me to come to study at the ELI was to improve my English. I did not expect that I can gain some unforgettable experince. I studied 8 months at the ELI. Not only I improved my English, but also I made some wonderful friends from all over the world, learned about other cultures, and learned about myself. Living abroad and living with people from all over the world changed me a lot. I am so happy about this priceless experince.

I am very glad that I choosed University of Delaware ELI. It is a very well-organized Institute. I want to thank everyone who works at the ELI for their hospitality and friendship. From the first day that I arrieved, I felt at home. Especially, I want to thank Dolly for her smile and kisses that she gave me every morning. And it is good to know that I have a room in her house :)) I learned a lot from my teachers and tutors who were really great. Thank you very much for your help, Barbara, Susan, Russ, Walt, June, Leslie, Whitey, Patrick, Marie. Moreover, the Institute gave me a chance to have a host family and a language partner. I want to thank John for trying to find me a language partner who has enough patience to listen my English :)

And my friends...All the people that I met there taught me something. It was very nice to share my life with those wonderful people. I want to mention everybody, but it is impossible -- Elodie, Hatem, Jirar, Vita, John, Bismarck, Jose, Martin, Luis, Valdir, Haruna, Arif, Lee, Umut, Claudia, Gabi, Claudia, Diana, Abdullah, Muhammed, Selin, Yuki, Luca, Luis, Mario, KD, Kiki, Song, Guney, Angela, Felipe and others

Hi everybody!
I'm a Tunisian guy and I've been at ELI for three sessions. If I would have to write a biography, ELI would be the happiest pages of my life. In fact, I met excellent friends coming from different parts of the world. We had such a nice time and unforgettable moments.

Thanks to everyone who made me feel like being in my native country (even if my english doesn't sound like a perfect one). Thanks to all my teachers, to all my tutors, thanks to all ELI staff and to the toefel corrector who didn't see all my mistakes :)))

Hi:

I found the E.L.I. web site while searching for some information about Delaware in the Internet.

I was happy to find out that you are still at the E.L.I. and, judging by what I found, that the Center has grown. Needless to say that I wish you and your family the very best and that I always remember the time I spent there with fondness.

After going through the April-June 1985 E.L.I. session, I attended Villanova University in Pennsylvania, where I obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree (1989). In June 1990, I received a Master of Structural Engineering from Cornell University. After graduation, a consulting firm from Puerto Rico hired me.

I have been living in Puerto Rico for nearly ten years. My wife's name is Aurora and we have two boys: Gustavo (7) and Alfredo (5). I am now a partner of the consulting firm that hired me in 1990. It would be very nice to hear from you. You can contact me at the following address:

In February, 1998 I was there taking an intensive English course and today I am sure about something: I will never forget the days I spent there. This was the best experience I have in my whole life and I met there a group of marvellous, nice and polite people (teachers, tutors, secretaries, directors-all who are part of the University of Delaware)

Last week I received (like every year) the newspaper you write and that demonstrate that you don´t forget "your foreign students". That is great!!!!!

I would like to keep in contact with you. So send some e-mails address. I send to you all my best wishes for this years.
