Abdullah Ibrahim (Saudi Arabia ’07) recently gave an important presentation to 200 scientists on “Microbial Diversity” at the University of Sheffield, England, where he is a second year Ph.D. student.

Alejandro Echevarria (Colombia ’08) is studying criminal justice at Delaware Technical and Community College.

Andres Burak

Andres Burak (Argentina ’95) stopped by ELI in January with his wife, Maria Laura. The couple, who were touring the Northeast, were headed to New York, where Andres planned to visit the headquarters of Ogilvy, the advertising company he works for in Buenos Aires as an industrial designer.

Junxi Zhang (China ’08) is majoring in finance at UD and was able to attend an Olympic soccer game when he returned to Beijing this summer for an internship with Citibank China.

Baris Ogurel

Baris Ogurel (Turkey ’00) now lives in West Chester, Pa., where he works at GSI Commerce as an operations analyst in risk management. He and his high school sweetheart, Pelin Karatekin, are engaged to be married in June 2009.

Carlos Villa

Carlos Villa   and wife Marcela Gonzalez (Colombia ’07) welcomed a baby boy, Matias, on September 24.

Carlos Reyes (Colombia ’08) received a scholarship to study at Delaware Technical and Community College and was made captain of the soccer team.

Claude Marchetti (France ’93) married Marina Gravecha from Russia on August 30.

Grzegorz Makowski

Grzegorz Makowski (Poland ’06) qualified to fly a Cessna Citation Jet 2 at a flight safety school in San Antonio, Texas and has started flying corporate jets around Europe, including to Moscow, Geneva, Zurich, Nice, Cannes, Paris, and Kiev.

Jung Hee Kim and Yun Suk Choi (Korea ’05) were married in April ’07, have a baby, and are living in California, where Yun Suk is attending graduate school.

Liliana Vela (Colombia ’00) graduated from UD in ’05 in hotel and restaurant management and is working for the Hilton Hotel in Baltimore as a human resources manager.

Bjorn Tibell

Bjorn Tibell (Sweden ’93 and ’94) married Alison Kurst in her hometown in Australia on January 5. Attending the wedding were ELI alumni Yuki Bito and Kazuko Kawakumi (Japan ’93.) Bjorn is working for Quantas’ investor relations division in Canberra.

Said Abdourazak Said Boina (Comoro ’07) is pursuing a master’s degree in American studies at the University of Kansas.

Magdalena Pawlowski

Magdalena Pawlowski (Poland ’07) and husband Radek welcomed a baby boy, Harry, into their family on February 8. The couple are living in Wilmington.

Martin Kohan

Martin Kohan (Argentina ’01) is currently living in Israel and working on his Ph.D. at Hadassah- Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem. He was married June 12.

Masato Morishima (Japan ’06) graduated from Sophia University in September, majoring in international business and economics. While at Sophia, he won first prize in the “Winter Job 2007” business competition sponsored by RECRUIT, one of the most successful information provision companies in Japan. He looks forward to working in General Electric’s financial management program.

Chams M’tir (Tunisia ’05) graduated from the University of North Alabama in 2007 with a major in public communication. During her stay in the U.S., she represented her country twice at model United Nations conferences in Washington, D.C., and New York.

Patricia Jaramillo

Patricia Jaramillo   and husband Daniel Alzate (Colombia ’06) welcomed a second daughter, Paulina, in January ’07. The toddler joins her older sister Mariana, 5, in Medellin, Colombia, where Patricia works for Bancolombia and Daniel works for Suramericana, the country’s largest bank and insurance company, respectively.

Yasuo Kato (Japan ’95) and his brother made a trip along U.S. Route 66 in September. Yasuo always did look for ways to savor authentic American cultural experiences, and he is still at it––enjoying this historic highway and living the adventure!

Tolga Bildirici

Tolga Bildirici (Turkey ’95) and his wife have a son, Bora, born on July 27, 2007, and a three-year-old daughter, Beril. Tolga is running his own cosmetics import company in Turkey.

Gloria Verastegui

Gloria Verastegui (Colombia ’00) is working in Colombia as logistics manager for Emerson Electric after getting her MBA from St. Joseph’s University and working for Wilmington Trust for two years as senior account plan manager. She was married in August this year.
