William Lewis is an assistant professor of literacy education at the University of Delaware where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in content area literacy, middle school English language arts methods, writing, and models of instruction. He also serves at the literacy instructional specialist for the Historical Literacy Project, an initiative funded by the United States Department of Education. This project helps elementary and secondary teachers synthesize history content and comprehension strategies to improve history instruction in public schools.

Before coming to the University of Delaware, Dr. Lewis taught secondary English language arts for 20 years in Pennsylvania public schools. His research interests include persuasive writing and argumentation, reading comprehension, literary response theory, and written analysis of literature.
