Have you ever considered teaching?
Become a teacher in one year!
Our accelerated masters programs provide the opportunity for students from certain majors to become teachers in just one year. Secondary education majors can add special education certification in one additional year.
- If you have a major in specific content areas (or at least 30 credits) from an accredited college or university, you can become certified to teach middle school or high school. Our Master of Arts in Teaching program will qualify you to teach the following subjects:
Master of Arts in Teaching- English
- math
- biology
- chemistry
- physics
- earth/space science
- UD English majors can become certified to teach English as a Second Language in the BA/MA 4+1 Program in Teaching
English as a Second Language.
- UD Secondary Education majors can add certification in Special Education and receive an MEd in Exceptional Children and Youth in the Dual Certification 4+1 Program in Secondary Special Education.
Not one of these majors but still want to teach?
The School of Education has two graduate programs for people from any bachelor’s-level major who want to become certified teachers in high needs areas in our two-year full-time programs:
- MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, offering K-12 certification in TESL.
- MEd in Exceptional Children and Youth (Masters Plus Certification Option), offering K-12 certification in special education.
Nationally Accredited Programs
All of our teacher education programs are nationally accredited through NCATE. This means that, upon successful completion of the graduate program, you will receive our institutional recommendation for certification which is required for certification in most states.
