Mathematics Education Students
The University of Delaware offers Mathematic Education programs at both graduate and undergraduate levels.Graduate Students
Most students in the doctoral program are full-time students in the Ph.D. program, supported on research assistantships through research and development projects in mathematics education or teaching assistantships through the School of Education. The total number of students in the program usually ranges between 7-15. This enables a healthy culture of collegiality to develop among students and close working relationships to be established between students and faculty.
Most graduates of the Ph.D. program search for faculty positions at universities and colleges. All students have been offered positions of the kind they pursued. Offers to recent graduates have been received from the following institutions:
- California State University, Chico
- Central Michigan University
- Clemson University
- College of New Jersey
- Delaware State University
- Michigan State University
- Montclair State University
- Purdue University
- Towson University
- University of Georgia
- University of Iowa
- University of Pittsburgh
- University of Southern Mississippi
- Vanderbilt University
- Washington State University
- West Chester University
- Western Michigan University
Master's degree students usually are full-time teachers who complete their degree over several years on a part-time basis.
Undergraduate Students
Approximately 15-20 students per year complete a special program in middle school mathematics teaching. These are Elementary Education majors who complete a concentration in mathematics and take an additional teaching methods course for middle school mathematics.
Approximately 250 students per year complete a four-year Elementary Education major and are certified by Delaware to teach in grades 1-8. More information about this program, and the mathematics education component of the program, is found in the Teacher Preparation section of our website.
