School Psychology Handbook: Financial Aid

Over the past five years, 100% of students in the school psychology program have received either a teaching assistantship, service assistantship, or a research assistantship. Students with these positions receive tuition remission during the regular semesters (but not during Winterim or Summer sessions) and receive approximately $14,000 in support per year. Although every effort is made to find assistantships for returning students, students receiving an assistantship one year are not guaranteed support the next year. However, all full-time Ph.D. students in good standing typically receive financial support for four consecutive years.

Please note that assistants are expected to work 20 hours per week during each week (expect holidays) of the fall, winter and spring semesters.

The majority of Specialist-level students and full-time Ph.D. students in good standing typically receive an assistantship from either the School of Education or from various research and teaching centers associated with CEPP and the School of Education. Centers that often award assistantships to school psychology students are the Center for Disabilities Studies, the Center for Educational Research and Development, and the Delaware Center for Teacher Education.

For questions or concerns about assistantships and fellowships, please contact Dr. Gail Rys, Assistant Director of Graduate Studies, School of Education. Dr. Rys is responsible for coordinating assistantships. Whereas many assistantships require individual interviews, others are designed by Dr. Rys.
