Transferring Courses Into the MI Program

University policies concerning transfer credits are as follows:

  • University of Delaware policy allows a maximum of nine credits of graduate courses completed as a non-matriculated student through the University of Delaware's Professional and Continuing Studies to be tranferred into the MI program.
  • You also may transfer a maximum of nine credits of graduate courses completed at other accredited colleges or universities. For each course, you must have earned a grade of no less than B-.
  • You cannot transfer credits that have been used previously to satisfy degree requirements for either a graduate or undergraduate degree.
  • You cannot transfer credits that were earned more than five years prior to the first semester in which you enter the MI program.
  • You cannot transfer credits from EDUC 700 - 729.
  • Transfer credits do not exempt students from core courses unless the program faculty specifically approves a request for such an exemption.
  • Transfer requests are submitted to your advisor during your first semester in the MI program. Each transfer request is examined on a case-by-case basis to evaluate whether the course is appropriate for the MI degree.
  • It is wrong to assume that you will be able to transfer any previous coursework into the MI program. There are no guarantees.

How to Request the Transfer of Credits

After you are admitted into the MI Program, you may request the transfer of credits by following these steps. Be sure to observe the transfer policies outlined above.

  • Download the required paperwork.
  • Complete the paperwork:
    1. In Section 1, enter HP under College, MI under Degree Sought, and INSX under Major.
    2. In Section 2, you must identify the UD course that is the closest match to the course you are requesting to be transfered. If you are transferring a UD course completed as an CEND student, enter the same UD course number under the UD equivalent.
    3. Leave Section 3 and everything below Section 3 blank.
  • Send your advisor the following materials:
    • Completed paperwork.
    • An explanation of how each course supports the goals you submitted with your application to the MI program.
    • If you are requesting a transfer of non-UD courses, you must also include: (1) university catalog description of each course and (2) a syllabus from each course.
