Program Tracks in Exceptional Children and Youth
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Exceptional Children and Youth degree has three program tracks:
- Traditional degree Master's Program (MP). Choose this track if you have a teaching certificate in either general or special education. For previously certified teachers, the traditional degree track also may be a path to a second certificate in special education. Non-teachers with experience in the disabilities field who want only the advanced degree may also choose this track. Focus areas include elementary, secondary, severe/autism, and special education technology.
- Alternate Routes Master's Plus Certification Program (MPCP). Choose this track if you want to earn your first teaching certificate and a master’s degree. Focus areas include elementary, secondary, and severe/autism.
- 4+1 Dual Certification (4+1). Choose this track if you are a current UD undergraduate secondary education major who wants an additional certificate in secondary special education and an advanced degree.
Current Delaware teachers who do not desire a master's degree may be interested in other options, including autism certification or an elementary/secondary special education course of study leading to a 'plus 15' salary increment.
