Elementary/Secondary Course of Study in Exceptional Children and Youth

Specialization and other courses embedded in the master's program can also be applied through continuing education to a post-master's Course of Study, which is approved for a "plus 15" salary increment.

Select one course from each block for a total of 5 courses (15 credits).

Block 1

Select one of the following 3-credit courses:

  • EDUC 697: Education of Exceptional Children
  • EDUC 673: Transitions from Secondary Special Education
  • EDUC 682: Research Issues in Special Education

Block 2

All students take the following 3-credit course:

  • EDUC 680: Educational Diagnosis

Block 3

All students take the following 3-credit course:

  • EDUC 681: Techniques for Behavioral Change

Block 4

Select one of the following 3-credit courses:

  • EDUC 674: Instructional Methods in Secondary Special Education
  • EDUC 679: Methods of Instructing Learners with Mild Disabilities

Block 5

Select one of the following 3-credit courses:

  • EDUC 646: Assistive Technology for Secondary Schools and Work
  • EDUC 652: Introduction to Technology in Special Education & Rehabilitiation
  • EDUC 653: Computer-Assisted Instruction in Remedial/Special Ed
  • EDUC 655: Assistive Technology
