Secondary Science Education Certification Option
Important Notice
Currently, we are not accepting applications for admission to the M.Ed. program in Curriculum and Instruction in the Science Education concentration for the 2009-10 academic year. The faculty is designing a new degree program that, if approved, would lead to initial teacher certification in Secondary Science through a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program.Applicants for the M.A.T. should have a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences—physics, chemistry, biology and earth science. We expect the M.A.T. program to admit students for study beginning summer 2010. The deadline for applications will be spring 2010. Please check back for updates. We apologize for any inconvenience.
If you are already teaching science, you should consider enrolling in the Master of Instruction (M.I.) program. The M.I. program is a degree for practicing PK-12 teachers who want to improve their instructional practice. The program strengthens teachers' capacity to study and improve their own practice through reflection and focus on individualized goals. The capstone project is a portfolio that is based on the individual teacher's practice and goals. The M.I. portfolio is aligned with National Board Certification through NBPTS, but is not equivalent. Teachers should view the M.I. portfolio as a step towards National Board Certification. For more information about this program, please see http://www.udel.edu/education/masters/instruction.
