Middle School Mathematics Concentration
ETE majors who pursue this concentration can become certified in middle school mathematics (Delaware 6-8). All courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C- or better. The concentration is composed of 24 credits, bringing the total number of credits for the major to 121.
Course Requirements
In addition to the courses required in the ETE major, students take the following courses.
- MATH 210: Discrete Mathematics
- MATH 217: Algebra for Middle School Teachers (Fall and odd-numbered Spring semesters)
- MATH 230: Finite Math with Applications
- MATH 240: Geometry and Measurement for Middle-School Teachers (Spring and even-numbered Fall semesters)
- STAT 200: Basic Statistical Practice OR MATH 201: Introduction to Statistical Methods
- MATH 221: Calculus I OR Math 241: Analytic Geometry and Calculus A
- MATH 222 :Calculus II OR Math 242: Analytic Geometry and Calculus B
Students take the following course in the second semester of their junior year or first semester of their senior year immediately before their student teaching semester.
- EDUC 336: Middle School Mathematics Curriculum and Methods
In addition, students in this concentration spend their second 8-week student teaching placement in a middle school mathematics classroom.
