Prerequisite Test for Math 251
Students wishing to take Math 251 must first demonstrate competency in arithmetic by passing a basic skills test in arithmetic computation. Students may not register for Math 251 until this test is passed. The test may be taken as many times as necessary. There is no need to register to take the test – simply show up at the appropriate room for a scheduled test. - Tuesday, September 1 at 4:00 p.m. in GORE 208
- Thursday, October 8 at 4:00 p.m. in GORE 208
- Monday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. in GORE 208
- Tuesday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. in GORE 208
Test Preparation
As stated above, this test covers basic skills in arithmetic computation, which students should have learned as part of their pre-college math program. These skills include basic concepts and operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as topics such as ratios and percentages. Students are strongly encouraged to prepare for the test prior to taking it. The Educational Resource Center (ERC), in room 012 Willard Hall, has a packet of materials that is available for students to checkout for test preparation. Students should also prepare for the test by logging onto www.math.comand clicking on the "Practice" tab at the top of the page. This will lead to a section on the website that allows for review and contains practice examples of all of the concepts that are necessary to know in order to pass the test. Additionally, the following books should be helpful in preparing to take the test:
