Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) Program

Prerequisite Test for Math 251

Students who would like to take MATH 251 must take the prerequisite test for the course that covers rational numbers, including operations with fractions and decimals. Students will not be able to register for MATH 251 until they pass the test. They do not need to register to take the test; they can simply show up at the time and location listed below. The test may be taken an unlimited number of times. If you have questions about the test, feel free to e-mail Terry Crotty in the College Office of Student Services or phone her at (302) 831-2301.

Test Preparation

As stated above, this test covers basic skills in arithmetic computation, which students should have learned as part of their pre-college math program. These skills include basic concepts and operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as topics such as ratios and percentages. Students are strongly encouraged to prepare for the test prior to taking it. The Educational Resource Center (ERC), in room 012 Willard Hall, has a packet of materials that is available for students to checkout for test preparation. Students should also prepare for the test by logging onto www.math.comand clicking on the "Practice" tab at the top of the page. This will lead to a section on the website that allows for review and contains practice examples of all of the concepts that are necessary to know in order to pass the test. Additionally, the following books should be helpful in preparing to take the test:
