ADPO Admission Requirements

  1. Applicants must hold a Master's degree from an accredited university by the month in which they begin doctoral work.
  2. Applicants should be working in a leadership position, either administrative or instructional, such as principal, team leader, central office specialist, or project coordinator. A current Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) must be submitted as part of the application.
  3. Three letters of recommendation from people qualified to assess the applicant's leadership skills and academic potential. One letter must be from the applicant's supervisor. Recommendations must be submitted electronically.
  4. Copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts (including coursework after the Master's degree) should be uploaded as part of the online application.
  5. A completed University of Delaware online graduate application.

Additional materials are appropriate if they help establish the candidate's ability to analyze, reason, interpret and write clear and persuasive prose. A grant proposal, report, journal article, or other succinct writing may be included with the application.

Admission to the Ed.D. in educational leadership is competitive. Admissions decisions are made on a number of criteria including academic qualifications, leadership experience and accomplishments, and the applicant's fit with the program's goals and objectives.

Admissions Timeline

All materials must be submitted as part of the on-line application and received by the Office of Graduate Studies before an application is deemed complete.

Completed applications are due February 28. In late March, selected applicants will be invited to the School of Education to complete a writing assessment. The essay questions assess the ability to write clearly and reason persuasively. They are not a test of subject matter knowledge.

Offers of admission are typically made in May for fall matriculation. All students begin the program together as a cohort in the following fall.

Please note: Financial aid is generally not available to part-time graduate students. However, the University's Office of Financial Aid periodically has opportunities you could explore.
