Applying to Doctoral Programs
Printed below is a summary of each program's admission requirements and the deadlines for applying. Although the deadlines vary somewhat depending on the specific program to which you want to apply, each one of these programs uses the same online application process. To apply to any one of the programs listed below, follow this link to submit your application online:

All School of Education graduate programs have the following minimum application requirements:
- A completed on-line Application Form.
- The following essay questions will become available to you after submission of your online application. Should you wish to prepare your responses in advance, the questions will be the following:
- What are your vocational objectives and how will your proposed plan of graduate study relate to them?
- Within your major field, are there areas of special interest to you? Please explain.
- Are there any special circumstances related to your academic record that you feel we should know about?
- Three (3) letters of recommendation. Recommendations may be submitted on a paper form or using a web-based form. You may review options for submitting recommendations by following this link to www.udel.edu/gradoffice/applicants/.
- An official copy of your undergraduate transcript, sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. Transcripts from the University of Delaware will automatically be linked to your application.
- An official copy of any graduate transcripts, sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies.
- All international students must submit official copies of the TOEFL test. The minimum acceptable score for the paper-based test is 600; the minimum acceptable score for the Internet-based test is 100.
In addition to these general admission requirements, some programs have additional admissions requirements.
The following programs require applicants to submit official GRE scores:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), all concentrations
The following programs do not require GRE scores:
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), all concentrations
The following programs require an additional writing assignment as part of either the application or selection process:
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), all concentrations
Application Deadlines
Application deadlines vary somewhat, depending on the program to which you apply. The deadlines are as follows:
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D.): February 28 (Fall entry)
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): December 15 (Fall entry)
